NaBloPoMo Day 17
Day 17 and i have so far managed to stay in the game, surely the next few should be just as easy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both girls are napping and for the first time in days i get to sit relax and just maybe catch up on blog posts - over 200 i want to reply to just waiting for me.
So its L today
Laura - Hi thats me
, I have never really liked my name and wanted to be something more exotic and different sounding - Taylor, Rhyleigh and Sydney were some of the names i used to dream of changing mine to. These days im not actually that bothered , its the name my parents choose for me so im just embracing it.
Language - I don’t speak anything but English but i do love the idea . We learnt German for 2 years in primary school (hence the trip to Germany) but when in moved to High school the only choice we had for the first few years was French. I really love the idea of kids starting from 4/5 or younger, i just think i was to old and found it to hard to pick up.
There are also the differences in the English language, there are so many words that mean something different here than they do in the US. You guys use pacis and diapers, your baby sleeps in a crib and goes out in a stroller, we use dummies and nappies and sleep in a cot and go out in a pram. There are many others such as
“Fag” - For us that means cigarette, not well you know. If anyone ever meets me and i use that term im not being mean just asking for a cigarette (mind you asking for one would be strange as i don’t smoke)
“Fanny” - Again for us we use this for the front rather than back (if that makes sense)its also a rather crude term to use , i spent many years wondering why children tv shows would use such crude sentences such as “i hurt my fanny” . The penny dropped a few years back and i felt awful silly. Can anyone else think of some other differences?
Love - I think its well known how much i love my girls, but im also crazy about DH. He was my first real love and hopefully the last, before him i thought i had been in love but nothing compared to how i felt for him. There is a song by Alan Jackson called It must be love that i had to listen to over and over in those days, even now i just have to put the song back and i am over come with memories and all the reasons why i love my husband
Liver - Now it one way i have never actually tried liver and doubt i ever will, its just now something i want to try. Now talking about live Pate and its a different story, i just love that stuff. I craved it all through both pregnancies (its not allowed when pregnant) and it was one of the first things i had when my girls were born
Lois and Clark - I loved this version of the superman story, even now i still enjoy watching the odd episode. I remember when it was be repeated around 10am in the morning and i actually took the day of college to watch the big reveal episode. I loved Dean Cain in those days.

I think “Laura” suits you! Of course, it’s the only name I know you by, so it’s hard to imagine anything else. :o)
I love hearing about the language differences!
sweet words about love. :o)
ugh, liver, no thank you! hubby tried to convince me I should eat it every day while pregnant, for the iron. I didn’t do that.
I was a huge Lois & Clark fan, too. I like your name. You’ve listed the most common language difference I can think of.
Ha. I thought of a couple via a Brit who reads me. You probably say parcel. We say package. She says straight away. We say right away. And, then, obviously Mum/Mom.
I might have to steal this idea from you :). Very interesting!!
