Science = Fun

On Thursday we found ourselves with a rare opportunity, for one day only no plans were made. DH found himself with a whole day off - no studying to be done or work to go to.

We wanted to make the best of it, sadly places to go with toddlers are rather lacking around here. Its much to wet to go outside, Eilidh is just getting over this bug so swimming was out. Sure they are millions of soft play areas but we wanted to do something as a family.

Eventually we decided on The Glasgow Science Center while the girls are a little young to get full enjoyment from the place we knew they would still have a ball. And have a ball they did, we left the prams in the car and let them both walk/run/climb like crazy. Everything was fascinating to them from the circle that they got to stand on and get spun around, to the crazy mirrors and millions of buttons that all needed pressed (and the fact they were allowed was a big plus). There are three floors to explore each one more fun than the last, i cannot wait to bring the girls there in a few years time when they can really appreciate it. Of course i brought my camera, despite putting in fresh batteries it died after only a couple of shots. Looking back im kinda glad because im sure i would of other wise been stuck behind the lens the entire time instead of enjoying myself.

Bad Blogger

I am so feeling like a bad blogger at the moment, it seems since December there has been one bug or another going around this house with poor Eilidh getting the blunt of it.  She has been running a terrible fever (getting upto 40.5c or 104.9 a couple of times. ) , she is sleeping terribly crying for hours during the night - last night we both passed out curled up together  just after 8 o’clock.

She is awful sleepy today which i think is a good thing, took a 3 hour nap this morning and 1 1/2 hour nap this afternoon and still went down as normal. I’m convinced she just needs a good sleep to help kick this thing .  She did get the MMR a week ago so im wondering if that is part of the problem.

Evenings lately have been spent trying to comfort her, of course DH is in the middle of exams and also studies in the room we need to go to. He finishes tommorow and has a week before he needs to return to uni , im so looking forward to the help  and a little break.

Stories Of The Week 1

I wanted to say a big thank you for all the wonderful comments on my last post, its really helped me feel better about this blog .

I know when it comes to it the purpose is to record the moments from my children’s life that i want to remember ,and also i guess to serve as a  diary for myself and i have to keep that in mind.

Lately though i have been finding myself recording less and less of the unimportant stuff when daily they are silly  memories i would love to write down.  In a bid to try and capture these memories im going to once a week write down those moments that stick out, they may be silly but i really think this sort of thing  will be fun to look back on.

Stories Of The Week

- Not sure if  i have mentioned before Eilidh’s fondness for calling all fruit Apple , except a Banana which is a “Ba - Apple” . You can correct her and laughing she will say the right word - pear, grapes etc… then go right back to asking for an apple.

- Rebecca loves to dance along to In The Night Garden, she gets so excited when the all character dance comes up at the end and must grab Iggle and Daisy to join in. Eilidh sways side to side quite dramatically  . The other day Rebecca was watching an episode and Iggle and Daisy were holding a blanket and dancing around a bed, she has a blanket and was dancing in circles. I of course told her she was adorable and for about half an hour after that she kept following me and recreating the dance so i would tell her she was adorable.

- Hopefully this will change but Rebecca has started calling milkies “BooBays”  despite us never referring to them as that word.

I Wanna Be In Your Gang

Does anyone else have terrible blog envy? I read about a zillion blogs and sometimes they make me smile, sometimes they make me cry , sometimes they make me laugh out loud and i cannot count the number of times i have agreed with something the author has said.

Is my life just insanely boring compared to everyone else? , well no i don’t really believe that. How can life with two toddlers ever be called dull. I have funny stories a plenty, antidotes that would have you rolling around the floor in real life but when it comes to the written word i ……well…..suck .

This is not something new for me, for as long as i can remember i have loved writing . In my head im a prize winning author with wonderful stories floating around constantly. Its the pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) part that has always troubled me, how come the wickedly delicious dialog that runs around my head is bland , boring and poorly composed when recorded?

I know in my heart im not a writer , but when i yet again come across another wonderfully written blog the green  eyed monster appears.  A secret dream of mine has always been to take a creative writing course, nothing big or fancy with a degree at the end . Just someone willing to guide me in the world of words.

(And like you i have no idea the point behind this post)

Over Time

Isn’t it the silly things the children pick up every day? Rebecca’s latest thing is when going out she must wear a scarf, hat and gloves. There just as necessary (to her) as her jacket and shoes , i think back last Christmas when it was impossible to get her to wear any of the three (as Eilidh is just now). Its just amazing to see how the thought process has obviously changed , she now knows that its cold out and the best way to stay warm is to wrap up.

Today was her first day back at playgroup and i was a little nervous unsure how she would react. We talked about it all weekend and asked her dozens of time who wanted to go to “school” . Today when the time came she was excited, she happily got all bundled up - except for gloves because of course every single pair decided to vanish at that point. Eilidh was given a big cuddle and kiss and she ran from the house.

Before we left i reminder her if her hands were cold she could keep them in her pocket, so for the entire walk there she did just that. I was glove-less and can promise despite the snow it wasn’t that cold . Her reaction at arriving at the school was one of pure glee, all layers were removed (including cardigan) the minute we entered the building. She more or less ran across the school and up the stairs before demanding the money from me and entering the classroom. She saw her favorite teacher straight away and just leaped into her arms, they hugged and she paid for the week. Next thing i know im getting a quick hug and kiss and more or less shoved out the door. Im thinking she missed going to playgroup.

What has happened to the little girl who broke her heart at the mere site of me leaving her there?

In Hiding

Im feeling slightly disconnected from the blogging world just now, i love my new digs but cannot seem to find reasons to post.Life is just plodding along in normal fashion  , i could moan about how horrible each and every night time is with Eilidh just now (she screams for hours most nights, its normal these days for me to be up till 4,5 am ) BUT to be honest there is not much i want to say regarding it, its soul destroying and making me pretty miserable.

During the day though the girls are wonderful.

Rebecca is still completely attached to “Iggle Piggle and Upsy Daisy” , they come everywhere with us and sleep in the bed at night. It of course causes some interesting fights when Eilidh runs away with them (just to annoy her sister of course). She just adores her easel and spends alot of time scribbling and drawing (and yes daddy is always trying to teach her equations and the like) . Her toy iron and ironing board also gets  a daily work out, she randomly gets naked during the day so she can “iron” her outfit then put it on again.  She is developing a bit of a violent streak which we need to keep an eye on, she is terrible for lashing out at Eilidh .

Eilidh is well just Eilidh, causing me to cry in frustrations some days and with love on others. She is so sneaky just now and running and hiding when ever you mention Nap time or Nappy change.  She has developed a real sneaky sounding laugh (or  should i say cackle?) and uses it every couple of moments it seems ,she always appears to be upto something . She copies everything her sister does down to play cooking, ironing and breastfeeding toys.  New words are added daily she even said a sort of sentence tonight “Mummy Done Out” when she was finished with her dinner .She will also tell you she loves you but only when prompted.

So thats my girls - determined to drive me crazy but fill my days with so much love i wouldn’t change it for the world
