I hear Esme is a pretty cool name that means esteemed. I’m not just saying this because that’s Squidges name IRL.

  2. carey says:

i have spent a lot of time recently going through name books and many times have thought “oh my! people actually name their children that!” i guess not everybody pays attention to what names mean. ;)
and we have the same problem with boy names! husband and i can agree on NOTHING. of course, this time we don’t have a girl name either and baby is coming in about 3 weeks. hmmm, we better get working on that!

  3. Kandy Cox says:

Congrats I didn’t know you all were expecting. That is great. I hope you find a great name either way if it is a boy or girl. Good luck.

  4. Chas says:

I like the name Emily. It also means “to strive for or excel”, which I think is a pretty good meaning. I wouldn’t name my kid Emily simply b/c there are too many around…it’s very popular here.

  5. Tara says:

I am one who doesn’t pay attention, now I have to go look up my kids names to see if they mean anything :)

  6. Christina says:

Those sure are some wack-o name meanings….and some popular ones on the list! I love Cassandra, but maybe not with that meaning!

  7. Meredith says:

Those name books offer some crazy names, don’t they? We had more fun reading out the weird names than honestly looking for names we liked. I’ve never heard of some of those definitions before, glad you didn’t have Elvis on the list! (it’s just his nickname, but I would hate for his nickname to mean something bad.)

  8. Shannon O. says:

I have never seen Emily mean that before… I have seen it mean Industrious, excel, to strive for, hardworking, and eager…

I’m surprised that Mary and the forms of Mary weren’t on the list because they all mean bitter…

  9. Shay says:

My step-daughter’s name is Mara Ollie. It means Bitter Olive. I absolutely hate her name. Mara is such a blah name. My husband said he had no say so in her naming–it was all on his ex-wife.
