Still With Names

Posted by lauramcintyre

The names i would love to use but DH says no to :(

Sydney (G) -  My all time fave name , i have loved it for years and always said my first girl will be called this. Unfortunatly DH hates its

Rhyleigh (G)  - Much like Sydney a name i have always loved , so now you know that if i had my own way instead of Becca and Eilidh my girls would be Sydney and Rhyleigh

Lucas (B) - DH annoys me with this one, he says no as it makes everyone think of Star Wars (as in George Lucas) . Um WTF? Noone agrees with that and DH is such a si-fi nerd i thought he would love the connection.

Kyle (B) - I give DH this one, i love it but he used to have a dog called Kyle

Finlay - Im in love with this name for a son, but as with everything its a NO to DH as it is more a surname - whatever!!!

Mackenzie (Either) - Blah its a surname , la la la another whatever!!!

Grace (G) - I really thought we would use that this time around, its such a pretty name and also my grans name BUT for some reason DH has changed his mind.

I know they are others but these are the names i have adored for years, its drives me nuts when my sister goes on about her future kids and what they will be named . She says that she does’t care what the dad thinks, how i wish it was that easy :)

We currently have one girls name in the maybe pile, but nothing will be decided till the 20 week scan. Don’t worry will not keep it a secret ,i cannot keep my mouth shut for anything

  1. Marylin Said,

oh great list! I lost count of the amount of names I liked and my dh hated! *sigh* why can’t they just agree with us eh?!

  2. Chas Said,

Sydney - My cousin is named this, therefore I would never use it. I do think it’s a sweet name though.

Lucas - It got very common around here a few years ago, and I’m not big on the really common names….plus it rhymes with my last name, which automatically puts it out for us to ever use.

Kyle - I had a student my first year teaching that was a big bully…his name was Kyle, and he is all I’ll ever think of when I hear this name.

Finlay - I have a friend who named her baby boy this…but it’s spelled Finley.

Mackenzie - One of my other friends has a daughter named this…and then one of my favorite students ever was also named this. People never seem to spell it correctly.

Grace - I love this name, but just about everyone I know has used this name as their daughter’s middle name.

I’ll be anxious to find what you guys choose!

  3. Kim Said,

Grace is a very popular name here in the states. I, personally love it.
I totally had the same experience with my husband when trying to choose names. Every name I really liked, Brian disliked. He never did like Will, but when the boy was born and the nurse asked me what we were going to name him, I said, “I’m not sure, but I’m going to call him ‘Will’” Pretty much gave Brian no choice in the matter. Especially after just giving birth to his son, I don’t think he felt very slighted. :-)

  4. Tara Said,

I love Rhyleigh- that’s what Saige’s name was suppose to be, but it seems to be THE most popular name around here. So instead I have Saige Riley, lol.

My hubby wasn’t thrilled with any name I liked and the ones he suggested were way out there. All said and done I told him he was free to name them whatever he wanted- as long as he pushed them out. I got my names :)

  5. Holly Said,

Sydney and Grace are my favorites. I had a good friend named Grace growing up and when pig latin became popular, everyone called her race-gay. No one does pig latin anymore, right?

  6. Meredith Said,

It’s so crazy how past associations can affect the names we like and don’t like. Before we got pregnant, my husband and I would discuss names and there were a couple that he liked that I just couldn’t go with. One was the name of a guy that I had a crush on in high school, and I just knew that he would think I had named my child after him. The other was Monica and made me think about a certain presidential intern, so I voted those down.

  7. Christina Said,

We had the same problem here - DH vetoed all my favorite names and his suggestions were off the wall! Nadia was the only one we could agree on. If it had been up to me, she might be Rebekah or Abigail. :o)

  8. Shannon O. Said,

What about these for ideas… and remember I have no idea what your last name is lol…
    Ainsley- girl- my meadow
    Grear- girl -watchful/protective
    Laird- boy- lord
    Gavin- boy- little hawk
Wynne- girl- fair (as in skin tone), pure
Elwin- boy- friend of the elves (tossed that in for the hubs lol)
    Emmett- boy- industrious, stong worker
    Keyon- boy- guiding, leading

  9. Toni Said,

Love Grace. I almost named my daughter that but husband preferred Hannah Claire so that is her name. With my son, he would definitely have been Grace but, alas, it was a boy. We named him after my dad William and call him Will.

I like boy names that are short: Jack, Sam, Mac, etc.

Girls names are hard. You either love it or hate it. Grace is my favorite although I love Paige and Stella, too.

Good luck. It is always hard.

  10. Mandy Said,

I am partial to the name Mackenzie, for obvious reasons : )

  11. Shay Said,

I like Mackenzie! Actually, I am not all taht fond of it. Clint picked it out and it was fine by me because no names turned me on. I do like Isabella, Ryleigh, Natalie, Kate, and Emma. But I don’t know if I could name my child any of those names. My all time favorite is Hanna (or Hannah). And I like Hailey too. But Hanna is such a peaceful name.

  12. Em Said,

Love most of them Lucas is my fav
