The Longest Day
Ever had a day that feels at least 40 hours long ? Today has been one of those but it a wonderful fun filled way . Think i should start from the beginning though.
The day started with Rebecca toddling through the living room and joining Eilidh and i sleeping on the couch , she wriggled and moaned a little unable to get comfy and it was starting to wake her sister up . I checked the time - 5.50am, a little early sure but no big deal so just let Eilidh wake up and the girls start to play. I dragged my pregnant self up and to the bathroom , came back to curl up on the couch for some tv as the girls played . It was only then i noticed the clock and the real time flashing - 3.40am . Checking the clock while half asleep is never a good idea and it was much to late to try and get the girls back to bed now so just resigned ourself for an early morning ..
At the real 5.50am the girls were dressed for the day eating breakfast while i cleaned the kitchen lol
We all took a nap around 7 , Rebecca and i getting woke up with the sun shinning through the living room window. We woke DH up and Eilidh soon joined us and we headed out for a day of fun.
First step lunch, as a very rare treat we stopped at McDonald’s - in fact this is the first time we have ever taken the kids to eat there (they had McDonald’s once before at a party but thats it) . I was impressed that you could swap the fries in the happy meals for fruit bags and fizzy juice for fruit juice so the only “bad thing” there were the burgers, both which only got half eaten then dumped in the favor of Apples . The girls got to eat are there own little table (in the style of a train) and were both fascinated by a penny dropping machine for charity (no idea what there actually called but you put the penny in a slot in the side and it twirls around inside before dropping in the hole) . All our change was quickly eaten up.
After a quick stop at the shopping center for some supplies it was time for swimming . I have a horrible confession to make but at almost 17 months old Eilidh had yet to go . We choose The Time Capsule . A semi local “Water World” as they call themselves, im sure most of you know the type of places - flumes, waves, rapids, fountains and just about everything else you could think about all themed in a “back in the past” type way.
At first neither girl was that sure, but by the end neither wanted to leave. Both were getting brave and happy to walk and bounce about in the shallow waters. Thankfully neither girl bothers with water in there face as this happened constantly (going down the slides normally resulted in full mouthfuls which just made us all giggle).
After all turning into prunes we left the pool and since it was still early (just after 3pm) let the girls play in the soft play area for a while. Another hour of running , climbing and general craziness followed as DH and i relaxed for a while with cold drinks .
Of course we had to do some quick shopping on the way home , just making it back for 5.30pm - by this point i think we were all shattered and starving (we had left the house at 11am) . Dinner and bath time quickly followed and both girls passed out (even though they feel asleep on the journey home)
Its been a long, tiring day but how i wish every day could be like this. The girls had a wonderful time, whats more perfect for toddlers that treat followed by treat followed by treat? They played and laughed so much today that they could barely move by bath time . Of course it was also wonderful being out as a family, its a sacarifice we have to make just now with DH working and studying so much but it can be tough . We all treasure the rare days we get to spend as a family.
Its now 8.30pm and im to tired to even go for a bath, going to go to bed with my book and let sleep take me soon.
Night xx
