The Labor Test
I really think one of these should be available, im sure you mums out there all know what i mean. A 100% full proof “Am i in labor ” test.
Something simple that the mother can do at home and you can stop this wondering and asking yourself “Is this it?”
Im feeling something this morning, horrible cramps that are constant - neither sitting/lying or being active seems to make a difference to them. My body is still in “clear out” mode but then again its been like that for the last week.
I *think* i may be having mild contractions but with the cramps its hard to tell if there something more than just regular old BH . Everything seems concentrated in the front with only very mild lower backache - have had no show or leaking waters.
I have searched and searched online and constantly come up with one of two answers - yes this is the early stages of labor or its false labor (common in third pregnancies apparently) .
With the girls it was simple, both times contractions started and so did the show. I had visable proof that i was not making it up and things just progressed from there. I keep telling myself if it really was the start of something i would know. After all this is my third time doing this surely i should be an expert? .
Maybe i am having a little backache now, sitting does not seem to help. Slight nausea to ……hmmm.
Im hoping we will know whats happening in the next few hours, i would love for him to born today for one extra special reason. Its a Wednesday - i know it may not seem like a big deal but both girls were born on Wednesdays and it would just be great if R was to ![]()

Hope this is it for you hon! I was in slow-labour for almost 3 weeks with Max - I wouldn’t wish that on anybody! (mind you, at least when push came to shove it was only a 3-hr ‘proper’ labour!)

How exciting!!!! I hope this is it for you!
On my third birth I went in to false labor every day for about 3 weeks. I’m not even kidding. It was so maddening. When it finally happened (I was about a week past my due date) I sat on the couch and waited for about 3 hours until I was sure I was in labor.
Just hang in there. If it is really labor the pains won’t let up. But, I know you know that already!
Good luck!

typing one-handed…
if you’ve had blood, it’s your bloody show and that means labor is very close. That is a pretty reliable thing (not to be confused with the mucous [plug which isn’t reliable)! I had it only with my son and i was in labor within a day or two.
to me it sounds like your body is switching gears. if you’re not already in labor, take it easy and it’ll be here soon!! can’t wait to hear the news!!

My third labor was weird too! I leaked (trickled, occassionally) amniotic fluid for 12 hours w/ no contractions… It was so sporadic that I wasn’t sure if it was really happening. I finally went to the hospital and they broke my water (the ‘forewaters’ were ruptured apparently) and she was born 90 min later… Best of luck! I know this is a bit old now, so hopefully you are holding your little boy in your arms now!!

Hi,
I have been reading your blog for a while, its great! I linked to you from squidgyboo! This post rang so true with me! I really needed the labour test! In fact I was so convinced I’d be laughed at by the midwives (I was also having a homebirth) that I wouldn’t call them. In the end my friend did but they still didn’t make it on time so my poor hubby had to deliver lol.
Hope little R (gorgeous name) puts in an appearance soon. Feel free to visit my blog, I think the add has shown.
Have a lovely HB if its not too late…best thing ever!
