The Mush Stops Here

Sorry was going to title this post plain old BLW but i think i like The Mush Stops Here better. I have talked about Babyled weaning here before - check out this site for more information .

For those new to it , basically its weaning your child straight onto table food. No mush , no fuss . Easy and fun.
There is so much i love about blw , can you imagine the time is saves not having to puree and spoon feed the baby . Its so relaxed , Ru gets given his meal and i don’t care if he eats it or plays with it or just plain ignores it. After all i have not spent time making a meal just for him but for us all and you can guarantee someone is eating it.
I love watching him play with the food, he will grab it in his chubby little hands and squeeze at hard as he can . He will put it to his mouth and suck and chew till it dissolves. Messy - sure but who cares . There is a reason we do bath after dinner you know :)

At the moment we don’t offer food during the day , its me being mean but we have set routines and stopping to let him play with food would break into that (plus you read the above its messy part didn’t you ) . I do like him having dinner and thats more to keep him out of my arms so i can eat.
Its been miss for the most part, most nights im pretty sure he was swallowing almost nothing . In keeping with blw i did not care - after all if he does not take solids then there is no danger or him weaning from the breast anytime soon (You have heard it hear first, yes i will still be breastfeeding him when he starts high school. Im not wanting to stop EVER) . Also the added benefit of keeping you know what from returning for mummy .

Last night was the first time he seemed to enjoy dinner . We were having a meatball casserole and the boy went nuts , eating at least 2 meatballs and a handful of carrots. In fact we all had finished our dinner and he was still eating his as i cleaned everything away. He also slept wonderfully last night, only waking up twice during the night (trust me when your kid sleeps as badly as Ru does , twice is amazing) .
Tonight we were having Pasta with Asparagus and Ham (and some other veg that needed used up ) and yet again he acted like a starving boy. This time we all finished dinner, i done the dinner dishes and cleaned the kitchen PLUS cleaned the table and put out his cot . He was still eating away…

It may just be a fluke and tomorrow he will be back to not eating , either way i love watching him with his food . I love how natural it all seems .

Mobile Weekly

I have mentioned my lovely blackberry once of twice haven’t i? Well i have been taken alot of pictures with it lately (mainly cause unlike my actual camera it does not die after 1 shot) and love how i can just upload them to flickr straight from my phone. Im hoping each week to share them here , sort of a week in review in pictures type thing. Knowing me i will do it once or twice and never again lol

Firstly a rare picture of me and my boy as we wait to pick up Rebecca. Then Courtney being silly , poor girl was bored . I rushed out the house without a hat or jacket for Ru (it did seem warm enough , plus he was sleeping and i did not want to wake him) . It meant we had to stay inside and wait the 30 minutes between her finished school and Rebecca finishing nursery.

I *love* that girl .

Then there is the dinner stealer, it was a long day - i was feeling under the weather and as Craig was going to be late home i made the girls a quick (frozen) meal and let them eat it picnic style. I forgot to take Ru into the equation and he was all over it, grabbing and playing with what he would get his hands on . I don’t really like the idea of him having this food so young but then again i don’t think he swallows much of it - chews it sure , plays with it sure but swallow NOPE.

IMG00124-20090421-1723.jpg

The last few weekends we have been going to my mils for lunch at the weekend rather than for an evening meal. Its means she gets to see the kids happy and refreshed rather than grumpy before bed, it breaks up the day for us all which is always a lovely thing. Ru got to go out and play for the first time this week , although as is now the norm he kept crawling off the blanket and eating the grass. At one point he had a Daisy in his mouth flower first and clamped his mouth shut (with stem hanging out) , could i get him to let go NOPE of course not.

And now lastly the girls walking home from “school” at the beginning of the week .Note 1 - Eilidh and her bag , took that to playgroup with a change of clothes for her just in case and she put it on her pack herself and refused to take it off - she wore it like that all day. Note 2 - Rebecca and those darn boots she refuses to wear any other shoes just now .

My Baby Is Better Than Your Baby

Does anyone else really hate the competitiveness of being a parent? Its bad enough in real life but internet land about 1000x worse.
I think its the anonymity of it - sure irl i could say Ru is walking but people would begin to get suspicious when he never took a step but if i was to say it online then who can prove im lying (which i am , he is crawling and pulled up to his knees a few time but no way near walking) .

My biggest pet hate is posts like i read this morning , they all sort of go like this.

My kid is x months old and is doing this and that and that (add whatever is way ahead of what they should be doing at that age group , one today was 13 month old talking full sentences, counting , knowing abcs , drawing people , recognising words etc.. ) , they go on to say there a first time parent and want to know if there kid is behind .
I lurk on alot of message boards/groups and this type of post seems common , maybe there telling the truth about the kid and maybe there not but to act as if they think there kid is behind is just silly . For me its clear they know there child is advanced and bragging but not want to come out and say it .

What is wrong with bragging if done in the right place in time ? I love doing it , i of course think my kids are the best and smartest children ever and will tell anybody who listens that. As im a mum thats my job :)

I remember the most ridiculous one i ever read , it was a birth group for either Rebecca or Eilidh and this women came on claiming her baby - her THREE week old baby was crawling , sitting up , talking and eating solids like a champ. She was quickly jumped on to prove it which of course she could not (camera was broken ) ,someone suggested contacting a newspaper because surely that should be a sort of world record and she said no . In the end she wrote a post saying that everyone was just bitter as her child was advanced and special and all our children were slow …then she vanished.

I could go on for longer but Eils has just woken up crying, poor girl has finally broke out in spots and is pretty miserable.

Kitchen Cleaning

Its been a busy few months, every room has been redecorated and deep cleaning /boxing up excess has began.
There is only one big job left to do and its been the one i have been half dreading and half looking forward to . THE KITCHEN

You can see for yourselves just how much needs done.

(Click on the pictures to get taken to Flickr, whole load of notes on the pictures).

It does look worse than it actually is, my kitchen is cleaned at least twice a day - i just happened to take the picture before i done the breakfast dishes . I cannot wait till its done and i have some working space again.
Im about half way through it now (doing all the cupboards to, barely getting to do much as Ru is in one of these no napping /want held all the time moods)

Hopefully will have an after picture to share by the weekend

Cause I Can

Did i mention i got a Blackberry? And i LOVE IT . I no longer read emails on the computer but on my phone, i twitter and use facebook on the phone. I play games and surf the web and it rocks.

Been playing about with apps this week , and whoop the whoop they have flickr. So now i can take photos quickly with my phone (as stupid camera eats batteries like crazy and i get maybe 2/3 shots before it dies) , send them straight to flickr and then bore you all with them. Got it :)

How Do You Do Yours?

Yes im aware this is a rather boring ,pointless post but honestly im trapped in a house with 3 sick kids and writing material is not the easiest to come buy.

How do you dry your clothes? Your washing/laundry what ever you call it.

I tend to do 3 loads one after an other , bigger stuff (towels, Craig my stuff etc.) plus stuff that come out almost dried get hung up on the Airer and over the heaters. Everything else - kids clothes, underwear ,socks etc.. get put in our tumble dryer. Out tumble dryer is to put it nicely crap and normally takes about 2 days of almost constant use to get half a load done.
Remember i live in Scotland where is rains about 360 days a year so outside it not really an option (also as we share grounds anyone can be out touching your stuff) .

Now wonderful hubby has managed to completely break the airer , as in snapped and 100% unusable, he has also discovered the tumble dryer is leaking and will not look at it . Basically i have a couple of heatings to dry 5 peoples worth of clothes on . Guess can use the doors to but i will be lucky to get through a load a day doing that (and considering heating is not on much just now stuff will take forever to dry) .

Im moaning i know but my washing pile is officially out of control , i do one average 12 loads a week and even then i am never completely caught up. We will so be running out of clean stuff soon

The Pox

It looks like its Chicken pox time in our household.

For those not following my moaning on twitter / facebook its been a long few days. First Ru got sick , he had been very fussy and unsettled and for 2 nights running had a horribly high fever that would not come down. Becca was also acting off also with a high fever.

Then a friend twittered saying maybe its chicken pox - her son was ill with it and we see them every week. I turned around to find Becca beside me naked and yes you have guessed it covered in spots.

Im about 99% sure its chicken pox although as the moment Ru is spot free (except for a tiny dot on his back which i thinking im making to much out of) and Eils is well fine. What else could it be though? Rebecca’s spots match the description perfectly .

I am glad its the Easter holidays though as it means we are missing nothing having to stay indoors , also hubby is off this week so i have some much needed help.
Of course im still running around like crazy trying to deal with sick kids (Eils while not sick is teething and is finally getting her 2nd year molars in).

Though Eilidh is still doing wonderful with the toilet training , she had her first accident today when she was fully clothed but one accident in 4 days is great. She seems to be fine with underwear or a dress/skirt but just now trousers - well we have plenty of time to work on it. Im just so proud of my big girl

Day One

Im a proud mummy today.

Finally decided to make an effort with Eils and potty training , she has been shown signs for a long time and is well aware of when she pees and poops . She spends most of her time in the house with a bare bum or underwear but she had never went in the toilet ….i am really fed up cleaning up her accidents all day long.
As the Easter holidays are now here and everything is off for a few weeks (meaning we are stuck inside with nothing to do) i figured - lets give it a real shot .

I bought a Dora sticker chart from ebay ( love them , is personalised to) and choose today as “Day One” . I was not expecting much , trying to get her to go to the toilet had not worked before so why would today be different.

S8306293

As you can see she done VERY well , in the end she got 13 stickers for a mix of pee and poop .She had NO accidents all day and after the first 2 hours was going when she wanted to without me saying anything to her. She was so proud of herself and after each time would be saying “1 more sticker”

I know we still have a way to go but for day 1 i think she done amazing ,she spent the day with a dress on and a naked bum so tomorrow we will try underwear. Im so excited over this , she is just my little star :)
