Rebecca

Posted by lauramcintyre

I promised Laura that I would give you all an update on how Becca’s hospital appointment went today. She was first sent for another hearing test, as the doctor was still a little concerned about her previous results. I think the results were even worse this time, however she really wasn’t interested in the test - all she cared about was playing with the toys in front of her!

As a result, the doctor had said he would have a closer look at her ears while she was in theatre, and if there was a problem he would remove her adenoids and put rubber grommets in her ears. Thankfully, her ears looked perfect and he decided not to do either of these procedures.

As for her throat, approximately half her vocal cords had joined together again (caused by the scar tissue from the previous surgery). However he felt that the scar tissue was thin enough and has tried to separate them using a laser. However this means that Becca has to go back in for the same procedure in about 2 - 3 weeks. After the next surgery, we will know if it is going to be possible to strengthen her voice purely via the laser surgery, or if more drastic measures will be required.

You will all no doubt be pleased to hear that Becca seems fine after her surgery though. She was very tired afterwards (as expected), however after a good nap she was up and playing. Although she did seem to go through energetic phases and tired phases, however we are hoping she will back to her usual self tomorrow. As you have probably realised by now, the doctor decided to keep Becca in overnight for observation. Hopefully she’ll get home tomorrow.

On the other hand, Eilidh has had apparently had a great day. She has been out all day with her Auntie Stephanie, and has been the perfect angel. She was even fast a sleep by the time I got home from the hospital! I’m glad one of us had fun today!

Health Issues

Posted by lauramcintyre

I think I’m going to enjoy blogging; i really wanted to write last night but couldn’t get to the computer without a kid in my arms. Thankfully both angels are sleeping now - Rebecca has even been in her bed since 7.
Eilidh got her shots yesterday and was a bit ill in the evening, i gave her medicine when we got home as instructed but she couldn’t get more till 7pm and between 6 and 7 she was screaming in pain, she was just so miserable. Come 7 though i gave her the medicine - i gave her a full 5ml dose even though the health visitor said she could only get 2.5ml till she is 3 months. Well she is 3 months on Thursday and slightly bigger than the average 3 month old so i went with my mummy instinct and gave her more - she does spit out quite abit of it so more than likely only got about 3/4 a dose anyways. She thankfully then settled and slept well only getting up briefly
at 1.40am.
Today she was in fine form, we go out for lunch every Tuesday and she babbled and squealed her way through the meal just falling asleep at the end. We do our food shopping afterwards and now put both kids in the trolley .I love that :)

I’m getting worried about Rebecca’s hospital appointment in March, we had not receive anything yet so DH called the hospital and they said they have us done for the end of March and we should receive something soon.
The surgeon had mentioned before that if her voice was quiet they would operate again to separate more of the vocal cords. She is still really quiet so I’m pretty sure she will need more surgery.
I guess its the not knowing that is the worst part as we have no idea how bad the surgery would be, last time she was knocked out and on a ventilator but there was so much more involved that just separating a little bit of vocal cords. The worse part would be i more than likely couldn’t stay in the hospital with her as i would need to be with Eilidh, DH would stay but I’m mummy and it would break my heart to not be. I just pray its a very minor procedure and can be done simply.

I Love Sundays

Posted by lauramcintyre

They used to be one of the longest days of the week for me but at the end of
my pregnancy with Eilidh we started going to my mums for Sunday dinner and its great fun.

Rebecca and her 4 year old cousin play so well together, today it was drawing. Both went
to either sides of an easel and drew for ages - now and then the other would pop there head
around and go boo to the other.
They chase each other around the house, and fight over frozen melon balls. Eilidh was content
kicking about on the floor so i got to be lazy and read the Sunday papers.

We also have a lovely 3 course meal to enjoy, it’s such a joy not having to cook or clean up the mess afterwards.

The girls are always so tired by the time we get home and tend to sleep really well, whereas i get to relax for a few hours on the computer as DH is working.

Tomorrow Eilidh has her second set of jabs and I’m really not looking forward to them, she has
been a little fussy the last few days and I’m worrying that will just make things worse. Also going to try and get Rebecca a doctors appointment as her Eczema is just getting worse and none of the creams and stuff we have is helping, its definitely bothering her now and she is scratching like crazy.
